The E-Klasse Coupe: Little tweaks for 2011

After receiving the rectangular exterior mirrors of the sedan, wagon and cabrio versions plus a new shape for the LEDs mounted on the front bumper, the Mercedes-Benz E-Klasse Coupe could also be in for a steering wheel upgrade. As the photo you'll find after the jump suggests, the 2011 model year 2-door Merc will be equipped with the 3-spoke steering wheel model that made its debut on the new CLS and already arrived inside the revamped C-Klasse lineup.

Report: new Smart five-door model headed for Detroit Motor Show

Back in early October 2010, we were writing about the collaboration between Smart USA and Nissan for developing a future, five-door car under the Smart brand. We now learn that this model could be officially presented in the upcoming period, on the stage of the North American Auto Show in Detroit. However, this new Smart will not be sold in Europe, as (for the time being) it is intended for US customers.

Smart issues patent design drawings for mysterious model

It came to our attention that a number of 7 patent design files showing a future, unknown smart model hit the internet these days. The pictured car offers little details to play with: the only thing we know for sure is the nonconformist cabrio shape, that harks back to the 2002 Smart Crossblade, a limited edition open-top model that featured large-diameter wheels, no windscreen and gas-actioned steel safety bars instead of conventional doors. So, we might be in for a suprise: whether Smart will premiere (in the near future) a series model or a concept (more likely) based on what seems to be a successor of the Crossblade, only time will tell. Till everything becomes clear, we invite you to hit the jump button and see more design sketches.

Cheap imitation of the B-Klasse: the BAIC BC301Z

Although Daimler and BAIC are currently involved in a joint venture for developing medium and heavy-duty trucks, the Chinese merger seems to stab its German partner in the back when it comes to the new cars they produce. Well known for models that resemble too much those built by prestigious brands, BAIC released images of its new BC301Z MPV which is, in fact, just a blatant, stupid copy of the Mercedes-Benz B-Class, outside and inside. We don't know what Merc officials think in this case, but, one way or another, an immediate action needs to be taken, because there exists the potential risk of damaging the image of the compact sports tourer produced by the Stuttgart-based brand. Although we are completely against this kind of questionable carmakers, we decided to publish photos of the BAIC BC301Z. However, don't think it is a pleasure for us to do it.

Another look at the new SLK: Patent design sketches drop on the interwebs

In early December 2010, a promotional video destined for the new generation of the Mercedes-Benz SLK emerged on the interwebs, very much ahead of the initial presentation date of this model. Today, on the first day of the new year, we came across a set of revealing patent design drawings that Mercedes-Benz filed previously in order to obtain the rights to use this specific exterior design for the new compact-sized roadster. After seeing the promo vid, the new SLK-Klasse is hardly a surprise, but these pics are nonetheless pretty much helpful to make a better idea about the car. Although the SLS styling influences are pronounced, the open-top model has its own, distinctive personality, boasting a bold, clean and powerful design, with simple, but effective lines, which make the SLK look very elegant and solid.
