A story of complete success: More than three million A-Class and B-Class customers worldwide

The A-Class and B-Class models exceeded the million-seller target by three times. Since the launch of the first  A-Class generation in 1997, around 2.2 million vehicles of the series have been shipped to customers. The B-Class has been sold in about 800,000 units since its launch in 2005. Dr. Joachim Schmidt, Executive Vice President Mercedes-Benz Cars, Sales & Marketing, said on the occasion: "Over three million customers already run our A- and B-Class. This makes us proud and confident at the same time for the new generation of compact vehicles. With the subsequent models, we intend to continue the success of the series, which will also bring new customers to the Mercedes-Benz brand. The new compact class cars are an integral part of our growth strategy, the Mercedes-Benz 2020."

Already in its generation change, the current A-Class still continues to enjoy great popularity among customers: in the first quarter of 2012, the series recorded a significant growth of 17% compared to last year. Particularly strong demand is reported in the European market, especially in the home market of Germany, followed by Great Britain, Italy and France.

Over the generations, the A-Class became a bestseller. Launched in 1997, it is considered the pioneer of a new vehicle genre with its unique concept and driving force in the compact car segment. Another step in the success story of the A-Class is the launch of the new generation coming this September. Premiered at the 82nd Geneva Motor Show under the slogan "The pulse of a new generation", the new A-Class was very well received by the public and media and is already setting new standards in the compact car segment. In addition to the emotional, sporty design, it boasts low fuel consumption and versatile infotainment offerings. For the first time in the Mercedes-Benz history, the new model generation will emit just 98 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

The new B-Class is widely accepted by customers all over the globe: more than 45,500 units were handed over in the first six months of its availability to clients. Overall, some 800,000 copies of the new generation and previous series were sold beginning with 2005. The B-Class is also particularly popular in Europe and China.

Apart from the new A-Class and B-Class, the new compact car lineup from Mercedes-Benz further comprises three emotional variants including a coupe and an SUV. All the five vehicles in the compact car will be built in the production network of the Rastatt plant, as well as at the new plant in Kecskemét, Hungary. The three new models will also be gradually released onto the Chinese market.
